Gray economy in the formal sector 20.6 percent of GDP
The gray economy in Montenegro this year, in the formal sector, amounts to 20.6 percent of GDP, which represents a decrease of 3.9 percent compared to 2014. This was shown in a survey by the Ipsos agency, which was conducted for the needs of the Ministry of Finance.
Noting that the volume and structure of the informal economy in Montenegro is still at a high level, the finance department says that in order to reduce the rate of the gray economy to the lowest possible level, they are continuously considering possible mechanisms that would target crucial points in an adequate way.
Therefore, as they said, the Ministry of Finance initiated research with the intention of determining the scope and structure of the gray economy, i.e. informal employment in Montenegro.
The task of the research, which was carried out by the research agency IPSOS, was to compare the rate of the gray economy in our country with the countries of the European Union (EU) and the countries that are candidates for EU membership, as a percentage of GDP, to determine the forms of the gray economy by industries and regions, as well as to assess its impact on competitiveness in Montenegro.
