VULIN
"Kosovo's NATO membership would be a threat to Serbia"
Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin said today that Kosovo's accession to NATO would pose a threat to Serbia in an armed conflict "and nothing else".
The Kosovo Assembly adopted a resolution Wednesday calling on the government to launch negotiations on NATO membership.
"Putting Kosovo under the auspices of the military alliance means annulling Resolution 1244 (UN Security Council), repealing the Kumanovo Agreement and all guarantees given by the UN, but also obliging all NATO member states to be obliged to protect in accordance with Article Five of the Charter the territorial integrity of the newly admitted member, "Vulin said in a written statement.
Vulin asked if anyone suspected that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti would "hesitate" to undertake attacks on Serbs, "especially in the north of the province and provoke conflicts and provocations until the state of Serbia is forced to defend its people."
"The forcible introduction of Kosovo into the NATO pact is not only a violation of NATO accession procedures and trampling on Resolution 1244, but also an open threat to Serbia and another form of pressure on Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, and countries that advocate Pristina's NATO membership know ", added Vulin.
