Fuel will be more expensive in Slovenia from next week

Retail prices of motor fuels in Slovenia will increase significantly from next week, and Prime Minister Robert Golob said that the new way of forming them is sustainable in the long run, unlike the limited prices system due to which distributors had losses and demanded compensation from the state.

Currently, the price of ordinary gasoline at Slovenian gas stations is €1.56, and diesel fuel €1.66.

From next Monday, the prices of fuel at the pumps along the highway will be formed freely and will depend on the price of oil on the market, while those in the settlements will be about 20% lower due to the regulation of the trade margin.

The Prime Minister of Slovenia pointed out that the current system of limited fuel prices proved unsustainable because distributors had already asked the state to compensate their losses amounting to €150 million, and that by the end of the year potential damage to the state budget could amount to €800 million.

He added that in the current situation, the government has done everything it could to protect domestic customers, and is preparing additional protective measures to support farmers and transporters, so that higher fuel prices would not have an excessive impact on transport and food prices.
