PAZIN CONSIDERS

With amendments to the law to full independence of RTCG

The Montenegrin Government wants to propose to Parliament, through the active participation of Montenegro's Radio Television (RTCG), the Agency for Electronic Media (AEM) and the wider public, more legitimate solutions that will provide stronger guarantees for full independence of the Public Service, Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro, Zoran Pazin said.

Today, he has informed the Presidents of the Councils of AEM and RTCG, Ranko Vujovic and Vladimir Pavićevic and General Director of RTCG Andrijan Kadija, as well as Director of AEM Abaz Dzafic, about the intentions of the Government when proposing amendments to the RTCG Act, which is by planned for the fourth quarter of this year by Work Program of Government.

"We want a strong and credible Public Service that is trusted and who will report professionally and objectively on issues of public interest. Such a Public Service, which is a key cohesion of society's strength, and not a polygon for any political, business or other interest impacts, is the need of Montenegro ", Pazin emphasized.

He pointed out that the Government has no legal ability to react to the situation in the RTCG, except to use its constitutional jurisdiction and propose to the Assembly a new legal solution that would be a reliable safeguard for the independence of the public service.

"My call to you and to the wider public is - come together to get better legal solutions, at the highest international standards, and to ensure that the RTCG is a place of true journalistic independence and professionalism, with no improper influence," Pazin told representatives of RTCG and AEM.

He also said that it should be considered a model by which the election of the RTCG Council would not be done by the Assembly.
