EXPERTS OF THE RUSSIAN "GAMALEYA"

Side effects of Sputnik V in 15% of volunteers

Director of the Russian Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and microbiology "Gamaleya" Alexander Ginzburg announced that 85 percent volunteers who received the "Sputnik V" vaccine did not have any side effects, reports TAS S.

Three phases of clinical trials of the "Sputnik V" vaccine show that no side effects were recorded in 85% of volunteers, Ginzburg said at a press conference in Moscow.

The director of the Gamaleya Institute said that 15 percent of vaccinated volunteers developed redness at the injection site and mild headache that went away in 24 hours.

The most unpleasant side effect that a person can develop after receiving the vaccine is a temperature of up to 38 degrees for two days, which can be treated with one tablet of paracetamol, Ginzburg explained.

"Sputnik V" is the first registered vaccine against coronavirus in the world. The registration was done on August 11 and the first probes that followed began in Moscow on September 7. Two days later, the first volunteer received the vaccine. Clinical trials covered a total of 40,000 people, 10,000 of whom received a placebo instead of a vaccine.
