The pandemic interrupted treatment of diabetes and hypertension

The World Health Organization said that during the coronavirus pandemic, the treatment of patients with high blood pressure and diabetes was partially or completely stopped in about half of the 155 countries surveyed.

In a survey conducted in May, the WHO noted problems in treating patients who were not infected with the virus but were at greater risk of severe complications due to the lack of therapy for their diseases.

"Many people suffering from cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes have been denied the health services and medicines they need since the Covid-19 pandemic began," said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

"It is vital that countries provide these basic health services even while fighting Covid-19."

The survey found that 42 percent of countries discontinued treatment for cancer patients and 31 percent stopped treating heart patients.
