AFTER MITSOTAKIS’ VICTORY

Members of the new Greek government swore an oath

Members of the new Greek government swore an oath today, two days after the leader of the conservative New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis won the early parliamentary elections.

Mitsotakis promised to make the country more favorable for business, cut taxes and negotiate on easing the draconian budget terms agreed as a part of the Greek rescue program.

The new government, which swore an oath before the Athenian ArchbishopIeronimos, is largely made up of experienced politicians who served in previous governments, but also includes technocrats considered to be experts in their fields.

Mitsotakis appointed Christos Staikouras at a key function of the minister of finance.

Staikuras is an economist and engineer who was a deputy minister in the previous government. The new foreign minister is Nikos Dendias who was in the ministries for development, defense and public order.
