ASHLEY SAYD

"Russia probably conducts nuclear tests "

Robert Ashley, the director of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, said that Russia is 'probably' conducting banned nuclear tests, violating the ban on the testing of low-yield nuclear weapons capabilities at a site in the Arctic, referring to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

"Our understanding of nuclear weapon development leads us to believe that Russia's testing activities would help it improve its nuclear weapons capabilities," Ashley said on Wednesday.

Ashley contended that Russia's current testing activities would help the country vastly improve its nuclear weapon capabilities.
Ashley added that the US "fully respects the agreement".
Asked to say what exactly he reproached to Moscow, Ashley partly distanced himself off his charges.
