Two Koreas will hold talks about their armies and the Red Cross

High-ranking officials from North and South Korea have agreed that the 2 countries will hold military talks as a step to ease tensions.

They also agreed to open Red Cross meetings on reunions for families separated by the Korean War.

The officials wrapped up this stage of talks at the truce village of Panmunjom on Friday. It was the 3rd inter-Korean ministerial meeting of this year.

South Korea's delegation was headed by Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon, and the North's by Ri Son Gwon, the chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea.

A joint statement released after the meeting says military officers from both countries will meet on June 14th at a North Korean facility in Panmunjom.

It also says the 2 countries will hold Red Cross talks on reuniting separated families on June 22nd at the Mount Kumgang resort in North Korea.

The senior officials also agreed to bilateral talks on June 18th at a South Korean facility in Panmunjom to discuss sports exchanges. Topics will include participation in the Asian Games, which will be held in August in Indonesia.

They affirmed that a joint liaison office will be set up in Kaesong, in southwestern North Korea, staffed by officials from both sides.
