RAONIC FOR PORTAL

The Constitutional Court to make a ruling on the law

The government, half a year before the elections, cannot afford to show weakness while the MPC wants to permanently capitalize on the mass protests, in this situation the Constitutional Court is the solution, according to President of the Civic Alliance Boris Raonic.

Raonic told RTCG Portal that compromise can only be found in individuals of proven integrity and professionalism, and , as he points out, there are still many of them, though a different picture is created.

Raonic also said that reactions of politicians and the public in Serbia to the situation that emerged in Montenegro after the adoption of the Law on Religious Freedom were expected and represent a continuation of a three-decade old model of politics in the former Yugoslavia.

Unfortunately, this model is still dominant because, as he says, citizens do not recognize its perversity.

He believes that it is easiest for politicians to mobilize voters on an ethnic basis, on fear and endangerment of the other, while they probably haven’t even red the solutions from the Law or comparable practice.

"Apart from politicians, of course, the same matrix of behavior was taken over by some media controlled by the political structures running the campaign, which further aggravated relations between the two countries," Raonic says.

Although he considers the call for dialogue to be a responsible move by the Government, he says that it could have come sooner, but it is certainly better it has happened, than to exhaust society in what he calls tragically divided positions.
