RTCG to determine liability in the Otasevic case

The Council of Radio - Television of Montenegro (RTCG) has ordered the directors of the radio and the television of Montenegro and the head of the multimedia center (MMC) to determine responsibility for the reporting on the incident with the Dan journalist Vladimir Otasevic, and to inform the Council about it and about the measures taken, within no more than ten days.

It was the unanimous conclusion of the members of the RTCG Council, adopted at the December 8th electronic meeting.

The Council concluded that the reporting of the RTCG in the case of the incident with the Dan journalist, which occurred on December 3 at Delta City Shopping Center, "was not professional and was contrary to the RTCG Development Principles adopted by the Council, as well as to the Council's position on public media professionalism ".

"The RTCG was late in reporting on the incident, afterwards it failed to carry out adequate professional procedures for verifying supplementary information and materials regarding the incident, and it was not consistent when announcing the news on the incident and broadcasting follow-up material. In doing so, it made new omissions, all of which caused further damage to the credibility of the public service media. Accordingly, the directors of the Television and the Radio and the head of MMC are ordered to determine the responsibility in the procedure and within a period not exceeding 10 days, to inform the Council on the above mentioned, as well as on the measures taken, " the RTCG Council’s statement said.
