Unacceptably low level of confidence in the Prosecutor's Office

Trust in the Prosecutor’s Office is disturbingly fragile, said Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Justice, Zoran Pazin at the conference entitled “Montenegro’s challenges in negotiating chapters 23 and 24”, organized by the Civic Alliance (GAMN).

He assessed that expectations that the Government gives answers to the questions related to the quality of the work of Prosecutor’s Office could not be taken seriously. He reminded that much has been invested in the education of judges, prosecutors, agencies.

In the coming period, says Pazin, the evaluation of knowledge as a consequence of education should be insisted on, adding that the goal of education is to increase the level of expertise and professionalism and ultimately to get benefits for citizens.

Nevertheless he is not satisfied with the level of trust in the Prosecutor’s Office.

"We should face the truth and say that he level of trust in the Prosecutor’s Office is at an unacceptably low level” minister Pazin said.

Minister Pazin assessed that blocking EU accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia was a very negative decision, but that it should not be an alibi for omissions in the Montenegro itself.

“However, the perception, which is sometimes present in the public, that the Government is responsible for the overall integration process is deeply flawed. The Government cannot enforce judicial laws instead of the judiciary. Therefore, everyone should bear their share of responsibility,” the Vice President concluded.

AleksandarDrljevic, main Montenegrin negotiator with the EU, said that the information from Brussels, in the situation when all of us in Montenegro want to become part of the community of European states, shocked and surprised us.

"We all want the process to be more intense and faster, but we cannot speak of a blockage.”Drljevic said.

President of the Judicial Council, MladenVukcevic said that the events in the judiciary can affect the integration processes.
