Montenegro welcomes agreement on Syria

Montenegro welcomes political agreement between the U.S. A. and Russia on the elimination of chemical weapons in Syria, based on the Chemical Weapons Convention as well as the cooperation with the Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, as a member of the United Nations Council for Human Rights, Montenegro remains committed to universal values that we share with our international partners in the EU and NATO concerning the common foreign and security policy in relation to global threats, such as, among others, the use of chemical weapons.

"In this regard, we remain committed to supporting a political solution to the conflict in Syria to help stabilize the situation and meet their obligations under the Protocol on the Elimination of chemical weapons."

As further stated in the report, "supporting the joint statement, together with a number of countries, Montenegro has made support in finding an answer as well as to finding a political solution to the use of chemical weapons in Syria, in order to fully implement the ban on the use of chemical weapons".
