The decline of confidence in the electoral process

The confidence of citizens in the election process has fallen in Montenegro, according to a survey by the Center for Research and Monitoring (CeMi), who believes that the new electoral reform is a way to overcome this.

The results of the public opinion poll "Confidence of Citizens in the Electoral Process", which was conducted by telephone on a sample of 1,054 respondents from March 25 to April 8, was presented today.

Slightly more than half of the respondents, 52.6% of them, said that they were satisfied with the way democracy works in Montenegro.

Public policy researcher Nikola Zecevic at CeMi said that the share of respondents who are fully satisfied, amounting to 20.1 percent, is almost at the last year’s level.

The majority of respondents, 57.4% of them, believe that corruption is present in the political system of Montenegro.

"Respondents who say that they are not members of a political party show a somewhat more critical attitude towards the extent of corruption in the political system, while polarization is clear among those who are members of political parties, 86 percent of those who belong to the opposition think political corruption exists" Zecevic said.
