LAWYER AKOVIC

Stories in media or pub do not influence court

Lawyer Lazar Akovic said that the court can evaluate only the statements that are given in the proceedings, while the statements given to the media do not mean anything.

Namely, speaking with the Belgrade based Happy TV, Sasa Sindjelic made a series of statements, opposing the testimony he made during the trial in Podgorica last year.

Among other things, he announced that no violence was planned in Podgorica on the day of the parliamentary elections in 2016.
"The statements given in the prosecution and the court have legal force and must be made in accordance with the provisions of the criminal procedure. The quality of the testimony can only be judged by the court when making judgments," Akovic told the daily Pobjeda.
He explained that the court can not pronounce a person guilty only on the basis of testimony of a witness associate. The credibility of witnesses associate has to be verified with other evidence presented in the courtroom.
"What is said in media, in a pub, has no influence on court's decision-making. The courtroom is the only place where the evidence is presented, other addresses are irrelevant," said Akovic.
