HAHN SAID

All parties to join the Working Group

European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn said in an interview for ‘’Pobjeda’’ that all political parties should actively participate in the work of the Working Group that will deal with changes to electoral legislation.

"We pay close attention to the events related to the assembly working group and look forward to its formation. This ad hoc parliamentary structure should start working as soon as possible as it has important and ambitious tasks ahead, including comprehensive electoral reform, the issue of political interference with the National Public Broadcasting Council, the removal of challenges related to the work of the State Election Commission and the Agency for fighting corruption, finding solutions for the election of members of the Judicial Council and solving local election issues,"Han said.

Referring to European integration, Enlargement Commissioneralso noted that the Western Balkans have never been higher in the European agenda, and that Montenegro should take advantage of that moment.

"This is a historic moment for Montenegro, the countries of the Western Balkans, the region and Europe. But now, it is up to Montenegro to take advantage of that moment. The upcoming elections for the European Parliament will not change that. As I have said on several occasions, the actual EU accession process is as important as the ultimate goal, which provides: cleaner water, better air and safer food,"Han said.

According to him, Montenegro has made good progress in accession negotiations. Opening chapters means getting into an intense work period.

"It remains now to open two chapters. Chapter 27 on Environmental Protection is currently in the Council of the EU in anticipation of the member states' agreements. In Chapter 8 on competition Montenegro is working to meet the conditions for opening up and it is now particularly important to make an independent state aid authority fully functional. But at this stage it is too early to say if this chapter could be open. Negotiations will continue on the basis of their own merits. That's why now the ball is in the hands of Montenegro,"Han said.
