MEDENICA DECIDED

Medojevic’s trial will not be broadcasted

President of the Supreme Court Vesna Medenica rejected today the proposal of the accused Nebojsa Medojevic and his lawyers for recording and public broadcasting of the trial over establishing criminal organization and money laundering.

The Podgorica High Court judge Vesna Pean, the president of the Chamber in the present case, provided the Supreme Court president with a copy of the main trial record in order to, compliant to the Court Rules of Procedure, decide on the proposal of Medojevic and his defense attorneys.

The Court Rules of Procedure stipulate that photographing or audio and audiovisual recording are not allowed unless the President of the Supreme Court approves it for a particular trial, which must be acknowledged to the judge at least 24 hours before the beginning of the trial.
The President of the Supreme Court, as stated, does not approve the application for recording and public broadcasting of the trial in this case, because the publicity of this criminal procedure has already been ensured.
"The publicity of criminal proceedings, reflected in the right of every adult person to attend the trial and to be informed of the proceedings through the means of public media, has not been questioned by the denial of permission for public recording and broadcasting of the entire proceedings, because citizens and journalists will not be denied the possibility of reporting with the trial in question, "the statement said.
