PEJOVIC WITH LINHART 14. 11. 2017.   >>  16:03 0

"Take advantage of the positive climate for EU enlargement"

Austria vigorously supports Montenegro's EU accession and its EU Council presidency priorities in the second half of 2018 will be the enlargement of the Union to the Western Balkan countries, Austrian Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Michael Linhart said in a conversation with Minister of European Affairs Aleksandar Andrija Pejovic.

Linhart assessed that Montenegro had achieved good results in the negotiation process.

"He pointed out that the new EU enlargement atmosphere is very positive, as confirmed by recent statements by some Union officials and member states. In this context, he stressed that it is important to use a positive climate and, in particular, the upcoming Accelerated Membership Strategy, as well as the summit in Sofia to intensify the accession process," the Ministry of European Affairs (MEP) said.

Pejovic said that good EU messages are a strong motive for intensifying reforms, both in Montenegro and in the countries of the region.

"He thanked in particular for the support of Austria at the political, but also the expert level, with regard to the volume and number of trainings and experts Vienna made available to Montenegro through European and bilateral funds. In this regard, he informed Deputy Minister Linhart about the status of negotiations in chapters, expectations from the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference and plans to open the remaining chapters,"the ministry said.

As it was announced, the interlocutors exchanged views on the results of the Berlin Process, expressing satisfaction with the results of projects in the field of infrastructure and energy connectivity.

"Bearing in mind the importance and dificulty of the chapter on the environment, as well as the domain of the digital agenda, the interlocutors discussed the possibility of including funds that the EU has opted for the Western Balkans into these domains," the MEP said.
