PROTEST IN FRONT OF THE PUBLIC BROADCASTER BUILDING

Part of the opposition blocked the entrance to the RTS

Serbian opposition leaders accompanied by several dozen activists blocked the entrance to the Serbian state TV (RTS) building at noon today, saying that no one would be allowed in, but that anyone who wants to can leave.

Members of the Alliance of Serbia (SzS), supported by some 200 citizens, began the eight-hour blockade, holding a banner reading "EU, its Your Choice: VucicOr Democracy" in both English and Serbian.

VukJeremic, the current chairman of the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) and leader of the People’s Party, told reporters that the goal of the gathering was not violence, adding that none of the protesters would try to enter the building. He said the aim was to show that the public broadcaster was not doing its job as envisaged by law.

“It will be peaceful and if there are no provocations we will break up at 8 pm,” he said.

Asked if the SZS is also pressuring the RTS with today's action, Jeremic said that they were "aware that this would not produce the result such as a phone call by the president's media advisor or president in person would have."

"We do not have the power that the President of the Republic has accumulated. If you want to characterize this as pressure, fine. But this is the pressure we want to put in order to free the RTS," he said.
