There are 12 candidates for the President of Croatia

By midnight, when the deadline for submission expired, the Croatian National Election Commission (SEC) received 12 nominations for president, whilean official list of candidates will be announced no later than tomorrow.

The nominations for the December 22nd elections were submitted by current president and candidate of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, and candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and former Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic.

Singer Miroslav Skoro, backed by the right-wing parties, as well as European Parliamentarian and former judge of the Zagreb Commercial Court, MislavKolakusic, also submitted their candidacies.

Anyone wanting to nominate had to collect at least 10,000 signatures within 12 days.

The incumbent president submitted most signatures, some 230,000, which is still 100,000 less than five years ago when she first ran.

Milanovic handed in about 78,000 signatures, collecting them in only two days, whileSkoro submitted more, some 80,000.
