33 VICTIMS MORE TO BE BURIED

24 years of Srebrenica massacre marked

Bosnia and Herzegovina mark the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide in which over 8,000 Bosnian Muslims – mostly men and boys – were killed by the Republika Srpska army .

Bosnian Serb forces overran the eastern Bosnian enclave and rounded up the town’s Muslim Bosniaks, separated men from women and little children and executed 8,000 men and boys over just three days.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Court of Justice in 2007 ruled that the massacre was an act of genocide.
The resolutions on Srebrenica confirming the verdict were passed by the parliaments of the EU countries, Canada, the United States and Australia, and by the decision of the European Parliament of January 2009, July 11 was proclaimed the Remembrance Day of the Genocide in Srebrenica.
Among the the Western Balkans countries that decision was accepted by Montenegro, Croatia and Macedonia.
The memorial centre for the victims has been opened in 2003 in the village of Potocari.
