STOLTENBERG SAYS

Western Balkans has strategic importance for NATO

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Western Balkans is a region of strategic importance for the Alliance.

He said that NATO will remain fully engaged, because it helps to promote stability in the region, reports B92. Stoltenberg also said that NATO enlargement was not directed against Russia.

"Today two countries of Western Balkans want to join the Alliance. We support aspirations both countries and we work with our friends in Skopje and Sarajevo to help them on their path to NATO membership", said Stoltenberg.

According to Stoltenberg, NATO is committed to strengthening partnership with Serbia, fully respecting its policy of neutrality.

"As all other nations, Serbia is free to chose its partners and that has to be like that always. We completely respect its neutrality", said NATO Secretary General.
