Croatia: Deminers on strike for eight day
Today is seventh day of the strike launched by the Unions of deminers after a failed reconciliation with the Croatian Association of Employers (HUP) at the conclusion of a new collective agreement that would sought to solve financial and social rights, agency Anatolia reports.
"Demining of Croatia's territory is national and strategic interest, and employers are threatening to have the legal right to dismiss 50% of strikers. We can not wait for them to make that move. We want to sign collective agreement which will be the agreement with a guarantee", said members of the union of deminers.
Employers offer the old collective agreement deminers are not satisfied with. They are also dissatisfied with the rights granted to them, as well as with violating their right on many counts.
As the main problems deminers are citing: irregularly paid salaries overdue for a few months, outstanding field additions since the last year, disrespecting the right to annual leave, absence of Christmas bonuses and allowance for children, shortage of job equipment and 'mobbing' by employers.
Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Croatia led by Mladen Novosel gave their support to the strike of deminers.
Unionists will go in procession towards the Ban Jelacic square today in order to draw attention to the problems this profession is faced with.
